ABOUT THIS BLOG

This popular and historic pub was acquired by its owners in 2009 with a view, initially, to building flats for social housing and then subsequently developing a small housing estate. Local residents opposed these plans from the start.

Planning permission was granted in 2010 after which the site was put up for sale. After many years of inactivity, building work finally started in July 2015. Locally, this was seen as good news. However, the houses have yet to be completed.

The aim of this Blog has been to keep residents informed of current developments and to record the long history of this small community's fight to keep its pub.

Bats in the Belfry (Reprise [version 2.0])

We've been here before.  You may have noticed the Biodiversity Officer's comments on the SBC website pointing out that there is inadequate ecological information with the new application particularly with regard to bats and badgers.

Given there were issues with the last application regarding the very same creatures, we are surprised that the applicants did not learn from this earlier experience and either provide the required information or submit a design that met everyone's requirements.  Bats, badgers and residents alike.

There is a not-so-old saying: if you keep on doing what you've always done, you'll keep on getting what you've always got.

  1. Yes and we should be given another chance to submit comments when the application is changed yet again. Every time I tried to comment on the SBC website it was unavailabl.e due to them implementing a new computer system.

  2. The applicants are total comedians. If they keep making all these mistakes with their applications how on earth can they expect to project manage a build of 7 properties? At the moment they are the laughing stock of the area and this is costing them money as each day passes!

  3. There were some problems with the SBC computer system but they seem to have been sorted out now. Why not try again now and see if you can still make a comment? If you have any problems I recommend emailing the Planning Dept. directly. Explain the problem and I'm sure they will accept your comment. It's never to late to try!!!

  4. Rumours are rife that the pub has been bought by a chain to be converted back to pub / restaurant. Any news on this?

  5. I have been told the owners have had an offer for the land from a group of travellers, I hope this is just a rumour!

  6. Maybe the same travellers that broke in through the roof and stole the water tank whilst the owners backs were turned as they stood on the car park?

  7. Could it be possible that the developers mates are using a serious blog to take the p*** ?
Maybe their social worker has shown them how to use the computer as a form of therapy ?

  8. Personally, I don't think any of the rumours are true. That the owners have been avid readers of The Blog certainly is.

And it has occurred to me in the past that certain comments might have been left by either their goodselves or their representatives since it is evident from what was said that the authors certainly don't live around here!

Although their interest in The Blog is, in one sense, flattering it's just a pity they don't take any notice of local opinion and submit a proposal that is in the common interest.

  9. I see another set of revised "plans" has appeared on the SBC site, unfortunately once again with no narrative explanation of how they are revised.
How SBC accepts this stuff with no detail and then considers it possible for the layperson to comment is beyond me.Lack of detail breeds confusion.
