ABOUT THIS BLOG

This popular and historic pub was acquired by its owners in 2009 with a view, initially, to building flats for social housing and then subsequently developing a small housing estate. Local residents opposed these plans from the start.

Planning permission was granted in 2010 after which the site was put up for sale. After many years of inactivity, building work finally started in July 2015. Locally, this was seen as good news. However, the houses have yet to be completed.

The aim of this Blog has been to keep residents informed of current developments and to record the long history of this small community's fight to keep its pub.

Merry Christmas - Again

And so, dear readers, yet another Christmas approaches.  This is probably the last time we'll be wishing you seasons greetings as, by next Christmas, the houses will probably be built and the Blog will no longer serve any purpose.  On the other hand, construction work does seem to be taking rather a long time ...

Last time we looked on the SBC website there was still no sign that the provisions of the planning permission had been met.  Whether this has anything to do with building progress, we can't say.

For now, then, a very Merry Christmas to one and all.

  1. As the houses are still advertised as from £320,000 we can only assume that this price is for the tiny, dark roadside front ones. Maybe the 2016 Christmas blog would refer to a BOGOF deal at that price or that the developer has gone into administration as the houses are unsold due to being built with flawed planning permission !!
Happy Christmas to all in Rough Close, except the property speculators and developers.

  2. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all at the blog and its readers.
Whether those houses get built by the end of 2016 is up for question? Our local councilors are no doubt keeping an eye on the slow progress to date. Lets hope SBC does a better job in 2016 of making sure that they are built to comply with buiding regs and planning permission specifications.

  3. And now they will take a part exchange on these awful, inflated price properties built where the G&D should still be. More signs that it was a very bad investment for the speculator. Goodo.
