ABOUT THIS BLOG

This popular and historic pub was acquired by its owners in 2009 with a view, initially, to building flats for social housing and then subsequently developing a small housing estate. Local residents opposed these plans from the start.

Planning permission was granted in 2010 after which the site was put up for sale. After many years of inactivity, building work finally started in July 2015. Locally, this was seen as good news. However, the houses have yet to be completed.

The aim of this Blog has been to keep residents informed of current developments and to record the long history of this small community's fight to keep its pub.

Demolition Notice

Looks like the pub is about to be knocked down.  There is a notice from SBC pinned to it announcing that demolition work will commence on 8th July.

  1. Unfortunately there is still no sign of a sale. The owners may have come up with the money to actually build the 7 houses. SBC and Parish Council are well aware of all the problems like fly tipping, etc. They will undoubtedly ensure that the building is knocked down and cleared from the site properly, cellar filled in, and adequate fencing put up until building work starts.

  2. I was in Butters today, the site is still up for sale,no one has bought it and from my enquiry certainly nothing on its sale seems current.
The previous contributor has somewhat more faith in SBC than most others have,do you recall that they have been actively complicit in ignoring democratically expressed views and supporting the developer ?
And suddenly now they become the communities friend ? Not in my world.

  3. It was also advertised in the property section of The Sentinel on Thursday.

Regarding the health & safety measures, we'll soon see how effective SBC is in enforcing them!

  4. One wonders, as this really been thought through?

When the building is demolished, the situation will be even worse than before. If they don't sell before the planning permission runs out it will be a nightmare for all: For both the owners and the community.

Not only would there then be a loss of an 1834 historic building, loss of a pub that was operational before all of this started but what will be left is a worthless piece of wasteland and no doubt a complete financial disaster.

Do the owners and SBC really understand the potential further problems arising from this latest maneuver?

  5. Two caravans were parked on there briefly on Saturday.
Possibly two of the many that have taken up residence down near Tesco Longton.
I have all faith in the council ensuring that fencing is erected once the ground is clear.....
