ABOUT THIS BLOG

This popular and historic pub was acquired by its owners in 2009 with a view, initially, to building flats for social housing and then subsequently developing a small housing estate. Local residents opposed these plans from the start.

Planning permission was granted in 2010 after which the site was put up for sale. After many years of inactivity, building work finally started in July 2015. Locally, this was seen as good news. However, the houses have yet to be completed.

The aim of this Blog has been to keep residents informed of current developments and to record the long history of this small community's fight to keep its pub.

Some More News

According to the latest posting on the SBC planning portal, the application was refused on the following grounds:
  • Impact on street scene
  • Breach of space about dwellings guidance
  • Design of development
Good, eh?  More news when we get it.

  1. On the presumption that the Davis`s will not just give up and crawl back to 45 Hilderstone road how do we find out what happens now ?
I presume that the battle is won but the war still exists and the G&D is unlikely to be reopening as our local hostelry next week with a contrite affable Davis as landlord.
    What happens now ?

  2. I can't see the G&D ever opening again as a pub. It is worth a fraction now of what they paid for it. They have removed anything that wasn't bolted down. Anything that was bolted down was unbolted and removed also. Who in their right mind would buy that place as it is? Unless of course they put all the stuff back again which I very much doubt. If they don't sell it they are stuck with a very big white elephant. Expect an appeal from them very soon...

  3. There are some new plans posted today (27th) if anyone can interpret them as no narrative information is supplied.

    What is going on ?

  4. We'd say that plans you refer to are simply the BC tidying their site up. The plans in question are very old and refer to the 5-bedroomed houses that were the subject of the original 09/12885/ FUL application. The refusal in the form of a decision notice is there for everyone to see.
