ABOUT THIS BLOG

This popular and historic pub was acquired by its owners in 2009 with a view, initially, to building flats for social housing and then subsequently developing a small housing estate. Local residents opposed these plans from the start.

Planning permission was granted in 2010 after which the site was put up for sale. After many years of inactivity, building work finally started in July 2015. Locally, this was seen as good news. However, the houses have yet to be completed.

The aim of this Blog has been to keep residents informed of current developments and to record the long history of this small community's fight to keep its pub.

Update

Clearly someone owns the pub!  Workmen have been around this week boarding up the windows and not before time too.  Whether this is due to council or police pressure brought about to address the use of the premises for drug related activities, we don't know.

And with regard to ownership, as far as we have been able to establish, Milwood Ltd. are now the owners of the pub having negotiated the sale directly with the previous owners.  This might explain why the "for sale" sign came down before we heard that the pub had been sold.

What happens next, though, is still anybody's guess.  Whether Milwood will sell the site on to another party or wait until economic circumstances improve remains to be seen.  And, of course, they may well have some other motive for not taking any action for the moment.  We've written to their representative who emailed us back in June but so far we have yet to receive the courtesy of a reply.  Seems to be par for the course with email.  If you don't want to reply, just ignore it.

As usual, if you hear of any other developments do let us know.

  1. Heard that some locals have seen the Davis's family sorting out boarding up of the pub. So don't be surprised if you get an email back confirming that Milwood Ltd are not the new owners.

  2. Thanks for letting us know. My source for Milwood having bought the pub was pretty reliable and in a position to know about a change in ownership. Milwood still haven't replied despite another email.

  4. Well spotted! Of course, Milwood might well have bought the site and now be selling it. Our previous source of info was very reliable. Anyway, it probably doesn't matter a great deal one way or the other. It is definitely up for sale and here we go again ...
