ABOUT THIS BLOG

This popular and historic pub was acquired by its owners in 2009 with a view, initially, to building flats for social housing and then subsequently developing a small housing estate. Local residents opposed these plans from the start.

Planning permission was granted in 2010 after which the site was put up for sale. After many years of inactivity, building work finally started in July 2015. Locally, this was seen as good news. However, the houses have yet to be completed.

The aim of this Blog has been to keep residents informed of current developments and to record the long history of this small community's fight to keep its pub.

Some Common Sense At Last

Just a brief post to let you know that the appeal against the TPO  has been turned down.  The TPO stays!  We don't have any more details at the moment but when we do we'll let you know.

  1. At last a decision has been made by the councillors that does make some common sense!

  3. So many wrong decisions have been made with regard to this site that it's a relief to see a decision that we can all make sense of. Well done to everyone who supported keeping the TPO.

  4. I see from the Parish Council newsletter that "we" the Rough Close residents made little contribution to the Fulford Parish masterplan in comparison with the Fulford people.
I know little about the role of the Parish Council and it all seems to be grass verges and dog mess from what I read but the request is for contributions to a review of the Parish plan /the currency of the existing one from us.
Is their any mileage in Rough Close residents making a contribution that the grab a garden/grab a pub for infill development is something that the Parish Council should have an automatic reject policy on ?
I think that we are all jaundiced on the antics of local government at borough level in Rough Close but would a firm no support policy at Parish level be worthwhile to stop what we have gone through occurring again ?
As I have no idea what role the Parish Council plays my proposal may be seen as pointless as expecting sense from the Borough Council.

  5. Really glad to see the TPOs are staying. There is the slightest whiff of good sense down in Stafford then. Was starting to wonder....

  6. In response to 23 Sept 12:20, my view is that we should contribute to any consultation process whenever requested to do so. Can we justifiably object to any development if we have not previously made our views known?

Regarding the Parish Council, it has given us staunch support over the G&D affair and is our first level of local representation. As such their backing was fundamental in objecting to the proposals. Without that support, I doubt that we would have got anywhere with our objections.

Thanks for the comment. I did read the Newsletter but somehow missed that point about the new local plan. I'll put a post in the Blog about it later.
