Regular readers of The Blog will be aware that the owners of the pub are now trying to sell it as a development site with planning permission and have placed the sale with an estate agent.
We have now learnt that they are having difficulty in selling the property because, or so they claim, of the tree preservation order which was instigated by the Arborculturist at SBC. The owners have now appealed against the order and are trying to get it lifted. The appeal is to be heard on Monday. If it is allowed, it means they can cut down the trees.
It was bad enough losing the pub, focal point of Rough Close. Now these people are once again trying to spoil the appearance of our local area by chopping down the trees.
We understand that members of the public are allowed to write in to object to the appeal and we encourage you to do so.
Send in your objection to the appeal by email to Denise Hill, dhill@staffordbc.gov.uk. But you'll have to be quick. The appeal is to be heard on Monday, 18th July. Your objections will have to be there by first thing Monday morning.
We also understand that members of the public can attend the meeting which is to be held at the Civic Centre, Riverside, Stafford.
ABOUT THIS BLOG
This popular and historic pub was acquired by its owners in 2009 with a view, initially, to building flats for social housing and then subsequently developing a small housing estate. Local residents opposed these plans from the start.
Planning permission was granted in 2010 after which the site was put up for sale. After many years of inactivity, building work finally started in July 2015. Locally, this was seen as good news. However, the houses have yet to be completed.
The aim of this Blog has been to keep residents informed of current developments and to record the long history of this small community's fight to keep its pub.Saturday, 16 July 2011

I have just responded to this request and submitted an objection to any easing of the obstacles placed in the developers way to further their profit agenda.
ReplyDeleteAs a member of the community I also raised the question why the information on this appeal to remove the preservation order has been non existent from SBC.
I don`t hold much hope out for anything positive from SBC (ever !) but surely the least that we could have expected was some communication to the community from them.
One does wonder what on earth the point is in the so called democratic process !
I share your sentiments precisely! I've had a long conversation today with one of our Borough Councillors who agrees completely. It seems to me that we need to keep on doing what we're doing: keeping in touch and making sure that we make our presence felt. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteExactly which trees does this involve? The ones behind or the ones to the left of the car park? I believed those ones on the left belong to Windmill Hill Day Nursery?
ReplyDeleteI have sent in a letter of objection as I am very concerned about the TPO being removed as I'm pretty sure we all know what will happen if it is lifted. As far as I can see there is no need whatsoever for this TPR to be removed. The order was placed and the order should stay. SBC should have had the decency and manners to inform the local residents of this appeal and they should also have informed the Parish Council as this is in their area.
ReplyDeleteWe've just emailed our objection to the removal of the tree preservation order to dhill@staffordbc.gov.uk.
ReplyDeleteThe reason he can't sell the pub is nothing to do with trees. Its because he shot himself in the foot by stripping it of everything inside and putting big holes in the roof.
Hope he 'owns' it for a long time as this must be costing him money every day...
