ABOUT THIS BLOG

This popular and historic pub was acquired by its owners in 2009 with a view, initially, to building flats for social housing and then subsequently developing a small housing estate. Local residents opposed these plans from the start.

Planning permission was granted in 2010 after which the site was put up for sale. After many years of inactivity, building work finally started in July 2015. Locally, this was seen as good news. However, the houses have yet to be completed.

The aim of this Blog has been to keep residents informed of current developments and to record the long history of this small community's fight to keep its pub.

One Last Roll of the Dice

There's just one more line of enquiry we think we can take to halt this development and we are taking it!  We aren't sure if it will come to anything.  It might not. But it's worth a try.  We'll keep you posted.

  2. Yes, as and when it comes to anything but it might not and I don't want to get anyone's hopes up.

  3. On clearing out some old junk from home the other day I came across some real junk from the Local elections of May 2007 where our 3 local Tories (including (the Judas) Andy Harp from his Pear Tree Cottage,Garshall Green pledge that if we voted for them they would deliver 7 Aims, working together with Ian Parry and Bill Cash.
I extract 3 of those relevant to the George and Dragon debacle.
Aim 1.......To protect the area from over development. SO THATS A FAILURE THEN.
Aim 2.......To protect the green belt and the local environment.ANOTHER FAILURE.
Aim 7.......To improve highway safety and maintenance.YOU GUESSED,ANOTHER FAILURE.

This compounded by a statement in the same document from the STAFFORD BOROUGH CONSERVATIVE GROUP where they state that one of their policies for the next four years (from 2007) is to: Protect the countryside from development and the towns from over development. ANOTHER FAILURE.

Surely our Tory representatives are aware that making such statements are a commitment from them to us and not things that they can just discount when it suits their personal agenda.
We can only expect that being lied to in this way will come back to them at the next election as the similar Liberal Democrat lies at the last general election will surely see the end of them too.Clegg and Harp bite the dust...very satisfying !!

  4. Well said. I just couldn't believe Cllr Harp's complete change of mind particularly when he let it be known right at the start of the "consultation" period that he thought it would go through this time. He didn't even wait for his constituents to express their views. You could be forgiven for thinking that democracy is dead at a local level.

Let's just make sure that everyone remembers Cllr Harp's role in approving the application when the elections come round.
